improv bucket list

sometimes i can feel my heart beating big in my chest and while it may be completely normal, i’m not completely sure it is. i think a lot about having kids soon enough to see them grow up. i’ve a generally morbid take on things. this is about improv, though. i’ve been thinking about my improv bucket list.

what do i want to accomplish before taking my final bow and tripping back into obscurity?

- Direct a hearing or vision impaired improv troupe
- Volunteer at a substance abuse hospital teaching classes
- Tour a state’s prison system in a short period of time and make a documentary about it
- Book an Out of Bounds show at The Paramount and have the star power to pack the house
- Produce Out of Bounds every year until I can’t
- Start a regional improv tour series with central TX community theatres and select Austin groups
- Do a show in Europe (and if that is accomplished, expand it to every continent)[i love penguins]
- Make my living producing, teaching, directing, and performing improv
- Perform for a 1000-person audience
- Finish the OOBible, a producer’s manual on how the whole thing is run, and make it available to anyone who wants to read it
- Do a week-long tour with the Cupholders or some similar crew
- Do a show with Loudon Wainwright interjecting songs
- Produce an Out of Bounds show that is filmed, released, and distributed as an Austin City Limits style DVD available for purchase
- Do the saddest improv show anyone has ever seen
- Do a show with a cast of 50 or so
- Do a show backed by a huge and awesome gospel choir
- Run a retreat style improv camp out on a Texas ranch
- Elevate improv’s stature in the arts world (not too specific, but very important)

And here are some fantasy listers
- Do a show in Iceland in a giant barn with a huge bonfire and Bjork and Sigur Ros in the audience
- Complete THE foremost respected academic improv textbook
- Cure a young boy’s cancer with an amazing improv show
- Get fit eating as much ice cream as I do
