The IRS, my favorite revenue service

got a letter from the irs yesterday. they want me to fill out a change of address form and mail it back. the kicker is they sent it to the address that i'm changing to. i should have written return to sender on it and put a post it note on the back that said, "please credit my irs account with ten dollars. i refuse to pay the salary of whoever mailed this to me."

i don't like when people do cover songs that were written by the opposite sex and change the 'shes' to 'hes' and the 'hims' to 'hers.' its like they're afraid people are going to think they're gay. well now we just think you're paranoid and stupid.

i was driving around trying to find addresses of people with so much money they don't have to do their own laundry earlier today when i heard joss stone's version of "fell in love with a guy" by the white stripes. except that the song is actually called "fell in love with a girl." she went so far as to change the title. that, to me, is disrespectful. then she sings about 'him' and 'his' whatever.
but she leaves in the line that says, "Sarah said its cool, she don't consider it cheating." that's stupid. i know it still works because she could be singing about the girlfriend of the guy she's in love with. but, it just annoys me. when you cover someone's song, it should be an homage; it means you respect their work. changing the lyrics indicates to me that you wish to take some kind of ownership for something you didn't write. do a cover, put our own spin on it, add oohs, huhs, and yeahs. but don't change the lyrics. you can't just eat the toppings and the meat without the bun. you think you're getting a "diet hamburger" with no carbs, but you're really just getting stupid looks from strangers in a restaurant.
incidentally, it's a pretty good version of the song. its all soulful and slow. i like the musical arrangement but the lyric changes and the change of the title are too much for me. i'll never buy her album and if someone is listening to it i will tell them they don't deserve to own a device that plays music.

and i'll never own an album that is advertised on TV.

as usual, i am full of spit and vinegar.

all in jest, but still true.
